Hi Michael,

Thank you very much for your
kind and encouraging response. We truly appreciate FFmpeg’s continued
support for open-source work, education, and community initiatives.
Learning directly from FFmpeg developers would be extremely inspiring
for our participants.

Yes, remote participation is absolutely possible for both speakers and mentors. FOSS Hack 2026 will be predominantly online, with an offline orientation and a final hacking session on 28th–29th March at our campus.
Throughout the month-long hackathon, the event will continue in online
mode, during which we can host speaker sessions and interactive
discussions to better guide participants. You are very welcome to
participate remotely.

Regarding mentorship, we are looking for FFmpeg developers who could support participants when they face technical challenges or roadblocks.
Every good project reaches a point where progress feels stuck - whether
due to a wrong approach, a difficult bug, or a complete blocker. For
FOSS Hack 2026, mentors play a crucial role in helping participants move
past these moments and successfully ship meaningful contributions.

We
also strongly agree that FOSS Hack 2026 presents a valuable opportunity
to attract new talent, as many participants are motivated students
eager to contribute to impactful open-source projects. For more details
about the event structure, audience, and engagement opportunities,
please feel free to refer to the event brochure shared in our previous
email.

As a small, student-led college club
organizing this hackathon, we are working with limited resources. While
we deeply value technical and community support, we would be very
grateful if FFmpeg could also consider a monetary sponsorship to help us manage essential event logistics and deliver a high-quality experience to all participants.

Thank
you once again for your time and consideration. We would be happy to
discuss this further or share any additional details if needed.

Warm regards,
Manya Yadav

Hi Manya

We are certainly happy about all FFmpeg work, education or community being sponsored.

About speaker sessions, i leave this to others to reply, but i certainly would be

happy to see FFmpeg developers speaking on FOSS hack 2026. One questions people may have

is, is it possible to remotely participate in speaker sessions ? (both speakers and listeners)

About Mentorship, how should we envission this ? is this like GSoC ?

Also i think FOSS Hack 2026, could be an interresting opertunity for us

to attract new talent.

thx
