Overnight, a SPI contributor to FFmpeg has posted on YT a rant about a
'spat' with the FFmpeg twitter account.
Video is at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VkcAvqV24c
In 11 hours since posting, it has clocked up tens of thousands views and
hundreds of comments.
Our outreach channels should not be confrontational or combative,
irrespective of the merits. Even if the other party gets rude, a civil
tone can be maintained. Who runs the twitter account and who wrote the
posts featured in the video?
Regards,
Gyan

There are critics that I would level about our media team: - misleading statements (1) that potentially leads to discredit, - personal opinions that look like they represent that of the FFmeg community, even though they are actually points of contention (2). And I understand that their salty tone is not to everyone's taste. But it does not seem to out of place on X, as opposed to LinkedIn. The CC already received a complaint about that specific git-log X post, and frankly, I fail to see a problem with it. Mr Aaltonen denigrated FFmpeg and OSS multimedia in general, and he is the one that we should be pissed at. FFmpeg merely stated the factual truth that he did not contribute anything. I think that the media team is well within its role to highlight the problem of OSS sustainability by calling out hypocritical statements. Please ignore the drama-tuber or better yet, just downvote the video. There is no shortage of bruised egos, know-it-all's and bottom-feeding click-baiters on YouTube. (1) Dubious performance claims extracted from a presentation at last year's VDD. (2) Dissing programming languages other than C and assembler. (And FWIW, Rust integration with assembler is way better than C's at this point.) -- Rémi Denis-Courmont Hagalund ny stad, f.d. Ultimately i and reynaldo control the twitter account. Reynaldo did not write these messages, nor did I. Access is then delegated to several other accounts. One of the accounts this is delegated to, wrote these messages. Quick vote, should the delegation from where this came from, be revoked to FFmpeg social media? I agree, but iam not here to publically shame people, if i can avoid it. Also while i know the delegated account it came from, And thats a personal account for a person. This account theoretically may (or may not) have subdelegated. I have asked who exactly wrote the tweets: <?> If you need some explanation of twitter, ?? and I can explain. <?> I won't reply on the ML because there is one person on X who has called for my "assassination" <?> ?? and ??? participate a lot on X with the ffmpeg account <michaelni> yes, id like to have an explanation what happened and who wrote these tweets referred to in the video <?> The tweets are highly selective > > > Quick vote, should the delegation from where this came from, be revoked to FFmpeg social media? > > (vote ends in 7 days) > > Start the poll in a separate thread. done [...] -- Michael GnuPG fingerprint: 9FF2128B147EF6730BADF133611EC787040B0FAB Modern terrorism, a quick summary: Need oil, start war with country that has oil, kill hundread thousand in war. It sets a really bad and dumb precedent, that anyone with moderate clout on a social network can call for the cancellation of members of the FFmpeg community. It could also be construed as bullying. If there is an issue that the GA cannot resolve, you can appeal to the CC, and ultimately call for a GA vote, but we are not there (yet). -- ヅニ-クーモン・レミ Villeneuve de Tapiola, ex-République finlandaise d´Uusimaa _______________________________________________ ffmpeg-devel mailing list -- ffmpeg-devel@ffmpeg.org To unsubscribe send an email to ffmpeg-devel-leave@ffmpeg.org ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 8+ messages in thread

It has never been good, usable, nor effective to reach any sort of target audience worth engaging, and I don't see that ever changing.
