Hi Everyone

The FFmpeg community decided, that we should actively look for sponsors.
And to do that, i will use my influence as shareholder of FFlabs to:

Authorize the use of excess funds (that is funds FFlabs does not need for
its own needs, obligations, benefit, growth, strategy, treasury), to be given to FFmpeg.

Of course FFlabs needs to keep enough funds to ensure, it at no time, runs out of funds.

Of course for this to be effective a single shareholders authorization is not enough.

But if it becomes effective, then the FFmpeg community can choose to use
these funds as it sees best fit for FFmpegs growth.
I believe this is also closer to the vision, several shareholders had,
of what FFlabs should be.

Comments and Suggestion are welcome

Posts about the business operations of FFlabs, a private company, are
off-topic on this mailing list.

Yeah, this seems like a really weird thing to declare in this forum.
If the question is whether the ffmpeg community would accept money
donated by fflabs? Of course. But whether FFLabs decides to
contribute money to the community is really a discussion to be had
with your other shareholders.

ok

yes

I think you misunderstand slightly.

First, if i propose as a shareholder of FFlabs, to have some funds
moved from FFlabs to FFmpeg.
It makes sense to me, to ask the FFmpeg community first. Because iam not
that smart. Someone might have a good suggestion which i can include
in what i intend to propose to the other shareholders.

thx

The only reasonable suggestion is get agreement from your shareholders
before raising this topic in public.

Are you their lawyer? Because as far as I can see, this issue is none of
your concern and this is just more of you bullying Michael.

I agree it's not my concern. It's nobody's concern apart from FFlabs
shareholders and therefore should not be on this mailing list.

Insofar as "absentees are always wrong" (French proverb), yes, but it should
be noted that almost no one participated in that "decision".

> And to do that, i will use my influence as shareholder of FFlabs to (...)

That statement gives the impression that you and/or the community expect that
sort of behaviour out of sponsors. This seems more likely to put off
prospective sponsors than motivate them, to be honest. You wouldn't typically
announce sponsorships until after they are somewhat or fully committed.

It also looks like a discussion point that belongs in your shareholder
meetings rather than FFmpeg-devel as others already pointed out.

> Comments and Suggestion are welcome

Yeah: Don't comment publicly about future or ongoing specific sponsorship
negotiations. Or at least ask yourself what do you think is more important and
should be prioritised over the other:
- Holdng public discussion about getting sponsorships.
- Actually getting sponsorships.
